Want

We took the kids to our local dairy for some ice cream last night. It's hard to believe that we hadn't been there yet this summer, but it's true and it didn't escape the kids notice.

Fiver: Thanks for taking us to get ice cream!

Me: You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Fiver: It's been a long time since we were there.

Me: I know.

Fiver: I miss ice cream.

Me: Really?

Fiver: And corn. I really miss corn.

I just don't know how he can stand the deprivation.

  1. Hey! I miss corn, too! (Not icecream ~ my youngins may have come close to overdosing on it this summer!)

  2. There's nothing like using food to mark the season. Now, I can understand not making it to the ice cream stand until right before they head back to school but isn't there at least one farm stand near your house where you can buy fresh corn.

Maybe it's not as good as if they had managed to grow corn in the back yard like they wanted to but still... it just isn't summer without corn on the cob.

And if you don't mind the question, how does Fiver do with corn on the cob? Or does he need it cut off? Just wondering because I know that is a pretty tricky skill to master. Princess is just getting to it this summer.

The corn crop in our neck of the woods is great this year...sweet, delicious, no blemishes or worms...I'm hoping to find some good peaches now. Our tomatoes are ok but not as spectacular as other years as I recall...soon it will be apple-picking time. Oh, and our second crop of raspberries are coming soon. The first one in June was delicious...we live in such a great country, don't we ?

  5. I get a hankerin' for an ear of corn myself this time of year.

I just want to say right now- thank you Jesus, for not making ICE CREAM a seasonal food.
    That would stink.
