Note Bene

When the kids say, "Hey, Mom! Can we cut into the pan of brownies for a snack?"

And when you say, "Sure!," thinking to yourself, Today I'll be the nice, laid back Mom and let them take the initiative on this.

This is what you will end up with:

Brownies that look like they were dug out of the pan by a wolverine. And this was after I cleaned it up a little by making some more square cuts.

And I won't talk about all the brownie chunks that were lodged in that infinitesimally small crack between the stove top and the counter.

Digging those brownie chunks out of that crack with a toothpick makes even the nice, laid back mom hide in a corner.

It's been slim pickins around here lately, I know, but when your dad and even your granny comment about your lack of posting, then you know you better get on the stick.

We are all right as rain here, with the occasional corneal abrasion thrown in for some excitement (thank you, Fiver). Please accept this picture of my ravaged brownies as a promise of more posts to come.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

  1. I have one of the world's greatest moms and she was the type to let us play in the rain, eat the batter, and dig into the brownies.
    Way to go, Mother Load.

Glad to see you surface. I was getting worried. Hope Fiver's eye is feeling better.

  3. Just so you know, I served a pan of brownies to a bunch of Big Brother's friends. All 17 and older, and they did no better at cutting and serving those brownies.
This may not make you feel any better.
I think that "perfect brownie pan" is the way to go.

  4. And if that's the way the pan looked, you know there was a trail of crumbs all through the house!

  7. Mmmm . . . brownies.

Isn't that the way it always goes? You think you will be easy-going and laid back and get some kind of payoff, but it ends up only being worse. But we keep doing it.

    Go Phillies!
