Happy All Hallow's Eve Eve Eve

Francie and Fiver wanted this design.

Guess who wanted this design?

The HomeFront Corp is headquartered in a township that changes the date of Halloween festivities to something ostensibly more convenient.

I already thought it was pretty convenient to know that Halloween was coming around every October 31st, but whatever. We trick-or-treat on the nearest Friday before Halloween, so that means we were on for tonight.

This year I commanded my children to pick costumes that were one of three choices:

a) easy to assemble from items we already had, preferably with no sewing involved
b) mass produced and easy to find pre-packaged (meaning nothing current or popular)
c) one of the above. And make it cheap, too.

Luckily they listened, and I was able to escape any kind of crafty costume intervention. The children ended up wearing most of their own clothes with a strategic piece of costume on top.

In the end, it didn't matter because the temperature, which had been in the 70's all week, suddenly remembered that it's almost November, for cryin' out loud. The kids wore their coats on top of their costumes and they all left the house looking like a band of hobos.

(Rob said that by most people thought Bun was dressed as a Phillies fan since no one could see his costume under his jacket. Even though he went as a puppy, it is not inaccurate to say he dresses as a Phillies fan.)

They came back looking like hobos who had knocked over a candy store. Bun kept shouting, "Pum has canny! Pum has canny!"

(Bun to English translator: I hit the jackpot! My pumpkin bucket overfloweth with candy!)

They have all collapsed in sugary heaps in their beds, and I am well on my way to a sugar hangover myself. My teeth are screaming at me to just exert some self control, for the love of Pete!

But come on, my friends. It's trick-or-treat night and my kids don't eat Snickers, Twix, Milky Ways, or 100 Grand bars. Someone has got to pick up the slack.

Plus, my sister brought over an apple pie tonight, so there's that. Sounds like breakfast to me.

  2. They don't reschedule Halloween here, so I am anxiously awaiting my 100 Grands and other "rejects." Your kids look so cute! Love the "Bun to English translator."

  4. Mmmm, your kids leave great leftovers. I love the hobo remark, what a waste after getting dressed up so wonderfully!

Go ahead and say it. You know you want to.
