Out My Window

It's official: the germs have breached The HomeFront defenses.

To be fair, it's really not all that hard to breach our defenses considering I only have one child who has learned the concept of personal space. The rest of them just fall in a big pile and practically lick each other. It's a wonder we have made it this far.

This kid ain't sick yet. Can you tell?

This go round seems to be confined to the sinuses/upper respiratory area, which is my Achilles Heel. A couple of the kids also have a lovely cough, especially triggered by night time post-nasal drip.

Rob spent a cozy evening on the couch last night, while Fiver and I breathed a miasma of germs onto one another. Not my ideal sleeping arrangement, but I did get to break out the old "Vicks Vapo-Rub on the soles of the feet" cough cure. It worked like a charm, as usual. (I would really love to know the science behind that . . . )

Since I am going nowhere and doing nothing today, save a side trip to CVS for my sweet, sweet drugs, I was able to cruise around the blogs this morning. With my coffee that I can't taste, but hey, part of the addiction is having coffee under any and all circumstances. (Although I only allow myself one cup of decaf per day due to the little mister or miss. So much for a true addiction.)

Barbara over at Praying for Grace got a good idea from Renee at "Go East," they said. They are taking pictures of the foliage outside of their windows in order to document the coming and going of the seasons.

I think I can handle that this morning. Even though I just saw Bun walking through the living room with Sally's cup in his mouth. I guess another bites the dust.

The days are still pleasant , but the nights and mornings have turned chilly. You can just see the first glints of color in those trees beyond our fence. That maple tree behind the kids' swing set will turn the most brilliant shade of red in just a few weeks time, as will my burning bushes on the side of the house. (Not pictured because of low battery, naturally)

These are the woods behind our house, as seen through the kitchen windows. You can just start to see the reds creeping in, although I love these woods at any time of the year. I always hear the line "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep" in my mind when I look out the kitchen window.

Okay, so I only managed two pictures of the view outside my house. Maybe next time there will be more to see, and I will have a decent charge on my camera battery.

Now I'm off to medicate myself as much as possible without harming the baby or slipping into a non-functional state. It's a fine line, but I'm willing to walk it.

  3. I cannot wait to see some awesome fall foliage. Autumn is my favorite time of year.

Except when I get an Autumn cold/upper resp. thingie. Ugh. Being sick stinks. Feel better.

  4. Tylenol Cold Night Time formula is a gift from heaven, if you're having trouble sleeping. I had the best sleep ever the three nights I allowed myself to take it.

Get better! I'm looking forward to pictures of pretty colored leaves. We have very few trees around us and the ones we have don't change color. :(

  5. I'm so jealous of people who actually have an autumn. The high here today topped out at 99 degrees. Plus we are having sporadic rain on a daily basis, so it's even MORE humid than usual and just all around muggy, steamy and miserable.

I'm sorry that you and yours are sick! I hope everyone feels better soon.

Getting sick while you're pregnant is just wrong. No good drugs. I hope you feel better soon. This is a new world record for the Domestic Accident household. No one has been sick or missed school. Nothing short of a miracle. I am enjoying it while I can.

ps- peak foliage here in Maine already. Winter cometh.
