An Eye Opener

I've seen this making the rounds on Facebook and other blogs, and I was interested to see what my kids thought of me.

I guess I should be careful what I wish for, right?

Here are the kids answers, uncut but complete with my comments. How could I resist?

An Interview with Francie and Fiver

1. What is something Mom always says to you?

Fiver: Get ready for school. (He fails to mention that I say this seven thousand times)

Francie: Stop fighting with Fiver. (She fails to mention the same thing as above)

2. What makes Mom happy?

Fiver: When I have a good day at school. (This breaks my heart because he tries so hard)

Francie: When I keep my room clean. (Yes! Especially since I've already crossed it off the Spring cleaning list)

3. What makes Mom sad?

Fiver: When I don't have a good day at school. (Again, that's the sound of one heart breaking)

Francie: When she gets so aggravated that she flips out. (False! I NEVER flip out. NEVER, I say)

4. How does Mom make you laugh?

Fiver: When she says something funny. (Ask a simple question . . .)

Francie: When she tickles me or tells me jokes. (She's a glutton for knock-knock jokes)

5. What was Mom like as a child?

Fiver: She did tricks. (MAGIC tricks, people!)

Francie: She loved the ice cream truck. (I still do)

6. How old is Mom?

Fiver: 25 (he is steadily moving to the top of my FAVORITE KID list)

Francie: 32 (very close, but I will happily accept one year younger)

7. How tall is Mom?

Fiver (spreading hands 10" apart): About this tall. (Obviously)

Francie: No clue. (She just knows that she is already UP TO MY SHOULDER, the little sprout)

8. What's Mom's favorite thing to do?

Fiver: Sit and read (Right on the money)

Francie: Listen to me play the piano (Bulls eye)

9. What does Mom do when you're not around?

Fiver: She plays with Bun. (True, although not as much as he thinks)

Francie: She feeds the little ones, takes care of the little ones, puts the little ones in bed for a nap. (True, and more than she thinks)

10. If Mom becomes famous, what will it be for?

Fiver: Being a doctor (Not likely, I have to do enough doctorin' around here)

Francie: Having the cleanest house (Not likely, either.)

11. What is Mom really good at?

Fiver: Cooking dinner (I know the way to a man's heart)

Francie: Housecleaning and singing in the choir (Apparently my house is MUCH cleaner than I think. Good to know.)

12. What is Mom not very good at?

Fiver: Hitting a ball (True)

Francie: Playing piano or flute (Also true)

13. What does Mom do for her job?

Fiver: She does the dishes. (All day, every day, it seems. Especially the glasses.)

Francie: A housewife. (And proud of it)

14. What is Mom's favorite food?

Fiver: Broccoli (Has he ever shared a meal with me? Has he never seen me around ice cream?)

Francie: Ravioli or cheesy asparagus. (Cheesy asparagus, huh? Well okay . . .)

15. What makes you proud of Mom?

Fiver: When she does something good (Nebulous, but sweet.)

Francie: When she trusts me (Oh, she's getting too big.)

16. If Mom was a cartoon character, who would she be?

Fiver: Charlie Brown (Thanks, kid. At least I'm not Peppermint Patty)

Francie: Blossom (From her favorite show, Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman)

17. What do you and Mom do together?

Fiver: Play games (He's a real player, that one.)

Francie: We work on music at the piano together. (She helps me with my alto parts so that I won't flunk out of choir.)

18. How are you and Mom the same?

Fiver: We both brush our teeth. (Dental hygiene is a very important similarity.)

Francie: Our hair is the same color. (Well, our hair was originally the same color. Mine has been processed a few times.)

19. How are you and Mom different?

Fiver: Mom works and I play. (True, but his play is his work, so I guess he and I both work)

Francie: She has four children and I have none. (Well, she's got me there.)

20 How do you know Mom loves you?

Fiver: She gives me hugs and kisses. (Can't help myself!)

Francie: She comes to tuck me in and check on me at night. (Even big girls like to be tucked in.)

21. Where is Mom's favorite place to go?

Fiver: To Giant. (That's our local grocery store. Not my favorite place, but since I'm always there, I can see how he would think that.)

Francie: The beach! (Amen to that!)
