A Winner and A (Tooth) Loser

Fiver lost his first tooth this weekend, aided by a crisp apple at the orchard near my parents' house. Now he makes a sweet little whistling noise through a tiny hole in his bottom row of teeth.

I am appalled that I was not consulted about this acceleration in development, but what can I do? I can see the adult tooth waiting at the gum line, and I know that I am powerless to stop the juggernaut of time.

We lost the tooth at the orchard, probably still stuck in the apple core that pulled it out, but the Tooth Fairy (who is a man, according to Fiver) is magnanimous. He was willing to overlook the absence of a tooth, and in his beneficence left Fiver the ridiculous sum of $1.50. I'm no psychologist, but I think the Tooth Fairy may be trying to smooth some of the rougher edges of the school experience.

It was a glorious, golden weekend, perfect in its simplicity, but Fiver's adjustment to school still weighs heavily on my mind. I have thought of writing half a dozen posts, but they haven't come to fruition. I don't even know what to say except to say that I'm sad.

Instead, I'll show you another peice of blog bling courtesy of my friend Laura from Catholic Teacher Musings.

I am a Super Commenter, and I'm not even going to try to lie about this or act like this is no biggie. I am proud of this, dang it!

For me, comments are like ambrosia. I love them. I yearn for them. I ponder them. I enjoy them immensely. (Unless they are from automated spam-bots telling me about medical or pharmacological enhancements. )

I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way about comments, so I try my level best to leave good ones for other people. Or at least good-ish. Thanks for noticing, Laura!

Now I get to pass it on, and since there is no limit, I'm giving it to anyone who has ever left me a supportive comment on this blog. This does not mean you, spam-bots.

I really do appreciate your thoughts. Keep 'em comin', m'kay?

  2. What do you think your Super Commenter theme song should be?

  3. We are having a bit of an adjustment to school as well.

Hoping and praying it all works out well for Fiver.

  4. I'm so sorry about the school adjustment. I know that pain, and how heave it sits on your shoulders. *hugs*

  5. We set a dangerours precedent when Bella was three - she had to have a chipped tooth surgically removed, anesthesia and all, and for her trouble the tooth fairy left her a whopping $20. Now she has her first loose tooth, and she cannot wait for it to come out so she can collect another $20. I have tried explaining that the first time was because she had to go to the dentist and have it removed, but she is still holding out hope. Hopes which I think might be dashed. Maybe I can just blame it on the economy - "Hey, times are tough for everyone, even the tooth fairy".

  6. Thanks for the award. I think the Viagra spambot is a little upset, though. I can hear him weeping in a distant corner of cyberspace.

  7. Yay for losing the first tooth. The Tooth Fairy is generous, but with good reason, it sounds like. I for one would like to read about his adjustment to school, and the challenges, but I can understand your difficulty in getting it all out. I'll be praying that things look up this week.

  8. I am so sorry to hear you are sad. You will be in my prayers this week. Although my kids are not in traditional school, I understand the stress that school situations can put on both the parent and the child, especially with special needs. Please know I am lifting you up this week! On a happier note, you are a super commenter! I love to get comments but usually only get 2 or 3 on any blog and I can usually count on you to be one of them. You always encourage me, always make me laugh and always make me feel like I am not alone in this journey with four kiddos trying to retain some sense of sanity! Hope you have a great week!

  9. Little Brother would be SO jealous that Fiver is ahead of him in the "losing-teeth" department. He is feeling the pain. At 6 1/2, there is not a wiggly tooth to be had. Meanwhile kids in his class brag about how many they have lost.

Hope school goes better this week, and each week after that....

  10. Ahh the tooth fairy is generous and wise. I hope today went well. You are in my thoughts all of the time. School is so hard because you aren't there to see what is happening and adjust accordingly when he can't. Keep up the good work, I know you will get through this too.

  12. Aww, congrats on the first lost tooth! It was something that freaked out my DS. He's already got oral sensativities, a wiggly tooth was the death of a school day!
Hang in there with school. I hope you are blessed with as wonderful of teachers as we have been so far. It really helps when they "get" it about the sensory stuff!

  13. Ah, the tooth fairy. She once had to leave an apology note for forgetting, not once but twice, to collect D's tooth and leave some moolah. Something about long hours and little pay. I believe that's what knocked me out of contention for Mother of the Year that time.

Go ahead and say it. You know you want to.
