Calling All Those Wise in the Ways of the Internet

I am embarrassed to ask, but what exactly is Twitter and how does it work?

I mean, I have a general idea, and I know I can go to their website and read all about it, but I would like a few real life reviews. How do you use it? Is it fun? Will it turn me into a zombie? (All very important questions. I'm sure Rob would need to know if I was going to turn into a zombie.)

I have received several emails from other bloggers who want me to join Twitter (does that make me a Twit? Oh, no, Aimee, that's not what makes you a twit . . .), so if you know about it, or use it, fill me in please!

  1. I finally became a twit a month or so back. Simply type in what you're doing/thinking at the moment. Just a way to keep up with people. It's fun to see who's doing what through the day, and I haven't managed to get sucked in. It's not like that, thankfully. Hope to see you there!

karen did a great job of summarizing what twitter is.

I think of it as microblogging. People will throw up a quick blurb about what they're doing right now. Or some quick thought at the top of their head.

Its not as involved as a blog post and kind of fun. Plus there is a way to 'reply' to other tweets so you can almost get a instant messenger like conversation going.

  3. Yeah, what the others said, except I don't use it (yet). It seems this the hot blog topic of the week, as your post is the third I have read regarding Twitter, in a row. Maybe I'll join, but I don't know that I have thoughts worth sharing throughout the day.

I am very afraid of Twitter. Since we put a laptop in the kitchen, I've develop somewhat of an addiction. I don't think I should fuel it.

I have no idea what twitter is and after reading the comments I am prety sure I will not be using it! I barely find time to go to the bathroom during the day much less give a minute by minute synopsis! However, I would love to visit you if you do it--maybe it will give me some encouragement, you know, that I can survive four kiddos!
