The Simple Woman's Daybook

I've been reading and enjoying these daybooks on most of my favorite blogs for a long time, and it finally dawned on me to do it here. I am not a bright bulb sometimes.

I meant to post this much earlier, but all of my plans were easily derailed today. It's the first day back to a routine of any kind and boy can you tell . . .

FOR TODAY
January 4, 2009

Outside my window... it is dark now and still COLD. Today was beautifully bright and brittle, with that bluish white sky that you know is just plain frigid. I even drove all the way out to the bus stop for the kids today. I am a wimp.
I am thinking... about my brother and his new FIANCEE. Congrats JB and J!

I am thankful for... Rob, who cleaned up the dinner dishes, reviewed homework, bathed the littles, and shooed the others off to bed because I am feeling under the weather. He says it's no big deal, but he can't fool me. Besides, it's the little things that mean the most.
From the kitchen... there was nothing much today. My rumbling stomach does not want to entertain the thought of food. I did manage to scrape up a "breakfast for dinner" night, but the nausea did not allow much more than that. I will not elaborate, and you can thank me later.
I am wearing... My flannel nightgown and warmest robe. And I just noticed there is a little blood stain on the front of my nightgown from when Bun split his lip open this morning, which he seems to do every other day. That boy needs a mouth guard.
I am creating... a baby. Is that a cop-out answer?
I am going... to bed very soon.
I am reading... "Boys Should Be Boys: 7 Secrets to Raising Healthy Sons", by Meg Meeker, MD.
I am hoping... that I feel a little better by the morning, since I have to drive the kids out to school across the frozen tundra.
I am hearing... the Fiesta Bowl coverage from the other room. Rob's getting in all the football he can before we kiss the season goodbye in February.
Around the house... there are boxes upon boxes of partially stored Christmas decorations. Trying to put things away with a 3 year old and a weeks-away-from-being 2 year old is like trying to clean up while a tornado comes through your house. It's always a process around here.

One of my favorite things... seeing Sally and Fiver sitting together under my quilt and drowsily discussing future plans, even if those plans do involve an ambitious, full-family sleep over.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I need to get the rest of the Christmas decorations put away, keep on top of the laundry, and take my glucose tolerance test. I wonder what flavor syrup I will get to drink this time around . . .

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
A couple from Christmas week . . .
As Rob says, he likes to have photo documentation of his awesome parenting skills. In his defense, Bun is just REALLY FAST. In the time it took Rob to pick up the camera and snap this picture, Bun was all over those scissors.
Francie says that Sally looks like a little girl from an English boarding school when she wears this coat. I love this coat because it was once mine, handed down to Frqancie, and on to Sally. And there is not a single thread loose. That is some quality workmanship, my friends.

  4. I'm telling you, our boys were cut from the same cloth! I remove deadly weapons from the hands of Tigercub with more regularity than I choose to admit!

We couldn't get the Fiesta Bowl...we don't get network TV, but I followed it on my computer...used to march on the BSU smurf turf in band. Go Broncos!

Hope you get to feeling better soon!

  5. Love that coat! I enjoy reading the Day Books, but do not feel inspired to do my own. Perhaps because I don't want to acknowledge my laziness? ;-) Get better!

  6. Congrats on the future SIL!

Let me know if I should read that book. I keep wondering what surprises are in store as Squirt grows up.
And, yes, they do not make quality garments like that coat anymore. I think I one just like it as a kid but it went through so many of my cousins it was worn out before Princess was born.

Go ahead and say it. You know you want to.
