What I Fancy, Letter by Letter **UPDATED

Updated: For those commenters who I couldn't email directly, here are your letters for the "10 Things I Like" Meme. Use them now, save them for later, or never use them at all, it's all good.

One More Equals Four: M

Val from Nothing, Really: S

MamaK from Florida Ink: F

Alexis from Love Life: D

LisaL: L, just to be alliterative

**********************************************

Whew! Thank you for answering the call, and leaving me such nice comments for my birthday. I enjoyed every single one.

Fiver stayed home today, but I knew he was feeling better when he started in on the hard sell for a piece of my birthday cake. With an iced tea chaser. Of course, my memories of midnight bathroom ramblings were still fresh, so his requests were denied.

I was heartened, and pleasantly surprised, by how many of you share my enjoyment for the Vermont Country Store. I just got their new catalog in the mail today, and I could not resist paging through it. I'm thinking a post devoted to the VCS may be in order. Oo! Oo! Maybe with some kind of VCS giveaway. I'm going to get my brain cells cracking on this one . . .

Both Cheryl and Laura have assigned me a letter for the meme where you list ten things you like that start with that specific letter. Does this meme have a real name? Maybe something less awkward and cumbersome than the explanation I just gave?

Since I have two letters, I will split the list and name five things with each letter that ring my bell.

Charming Cheryl gave me the letter "C":

Children: More specifically, mine, and thank goodness for that. Especially after this weekend. When you are holding a person's body over the toilet, you realize that sometimes love is the only thing that will get you through.

Cookies: It's that time of year again, I just ordered some Girl Scout cookies from friends of ours. Caramel Delites, you are my kryptonite, and you also start with "C".

Chocolate: This is such a deeply embedded love that I almost didn't put it on the list. Some things are just understood. Like coffee, another favorite "C."

Candles: I've always loved the flickering glow of candles, and when I want to make the house feel cozy, I look no farther than my trusty Aim N' Flame.

Coupons: I have been known to get a little giddy when I come across a coupon for a really good deal. I love saving money, but sometimes, when the coupon is such a prize, there's a little piece of me that hates to part with it. I'm always on the lookout for coupons, so it's lucky for me that my children pull every.single.one out of those coupon machines on the grocery store shelves.

Lovely Laura gave me the letter "H":

Honesty: It really is the best policy. Maybe not the easiest policy, but still the best.

Humility: I don't mean that fake kind of humility which some people use to get other people to flatter them or notice them. Truly humble people are some of the best people to hang around.

Happiness: I'm one of those "bloom where you're planted" people. Happiness is a decision, not a feeling. It's a decision to look at your life through a certain filter, and to keep that filter in place even when the crappiness of the world closes in.

Hugs: I love hugs from chubby baby arms, especially those knee-cappers from Sally. They're some of the best.

Home: I love to be home, with all my chicks around me. There is indefinable value in having a place where all the people you love most are gathered. The happiness of the domestic fireside is the first boon of Heaven; and it is well it is so, since it is that which is the lot of the mass of mankind. ~Thomas Jefferson, 1813

I could go on, but since I treated today as an extension of my birthday, I'm afraid it's time to pay the housework piper. There's a mountain of laundry with my name on it, but if you find you have the time for a little meme, I'll take my turn at assigning letters.

Leave a comment with a "C" or an "H" that tickles you, and I'll pick a letter for you. If you don't have time for it now, you can save your letter meme for a rainy day. Or a snowy day, depending on where you live.

  1. Well, of course chocolate, that is just assumed! I also must say Cooper--My little surprise that I couldn't live without! And for H, well, I would have to say House Hunters (do I get two points for that) mostly because along with House Hunters comes popcorn, Diet Coke and Peanut M&M's and you really just can't get better than that!

  2. Coffee, without a doubt. I'm not entirely sure if/how I would function without it. And I'm glad to hear that Fiver is feeling better - when I'm the one holding a beloved child over a toilet, the letter I have to worry about is 'S', for sympathy puker.

  3. Harrisburg, the Coopersburg Diner (or did I make that up?), coffee and chocolate, horses and home...

but i think i get extra points for the Coop reference. Unless my memory fails me, in which case, um, never mind.

It looks waaaay different than I remember. So does the college, for that matter. I guess it WAS about a dozen years ago (gasp).

And did I comment on the HAPPY BIRTHDAY phenom that you had? I hope so. It's possible I did not, as my brain is a non-functioning, sleep-deprived mush right now. But still, I'm THINKING about you. and trying NOT to think about Fiver and the toliet...

  5. I'm going for C:
    Calm.
It's a rare commodity and ought to be valued.

  6. Great post!!
I'm a big fan of "knee-cappers" too, but Little Brother is too big for those now :(

Here's my C: COFFEE!! In fact, I think I'll make some right now! And don't forget to add the HALF-&-HALF...wait, that starts with H. What a coincidence!

But I was going to say "HUSBAND" for H since today is our anniversary!

I will pick "C" and for that "children". I love my 2 with all my heart even though they drive me crazy. So much that when I say "Drive me..." my 2 yr old says "nuts!"!! haha I love the "I la you mommy" and the "thanks for taking care of me mom" lines and (almost) everything else they do!

I'm gift bag stingy. I'll hang on to a pretty gift bag for years...and what's the point of that?
