Seven Quick Takes Friday

It's Friday? Already? Yikes.

Thank goodness there are Seven Quick Takes Fridays (SQTF).

1. I am happy to report that my sore throat is mostly gone; it's more of just a scratchiness now. I did follow your suggestions for hot beverages, but I have to admit that the wretched salt water gargle is still the best. But that's not going to stop me from trying the rest of your suggestions the next time.

2. As my love and fascination for the Vermont Country Store catalog grows, I am forced to acknowledge the fact that I am, at heart, an eighty year old woman. Maybe I'll have to expound on this in a later post.

3. As a child, I never, ever thought that there would come a time that I would forget my own birthday. My birthday is on Sunday, and I have forgotten it twice this week. My own children had to remind me. I'm sure my inner child is incredulous.

4. In all my years of schooling, I prayed for a snow day on my birthday, but it never happened. Now, when snow days mean something entirely different to me, it looks like I will get one.

5. I got the chance to visit with a friend who's son has a terminal illness, and her sense of humor amazes me. The human spirit, full of God's grace, is astounding.

6. I have an appointment at my weird hair salon tonight. I'll let you know if there are more dogs, or any other strange things afoot.

7. I am in serious like with my new enamel covered cast iron Dutch oven from the Mario Batali line. I've always wanted a LeCreuset Dutch oven, but I didn't know if I was willing to hand over a kidney to foot the bill. Mario Batali came out with a Le Creuset-esque pot and, while it's not cheap exactly, it was affordable enough for my siblings to go in on one as my Christmas gift. (Thanks, guys, it rocks.) Mine is red, and Rob calls it "Mario," which just makes it more fun to have around the kitchen.

That's it, folks. Have a great weekend, and, as long as Jesus doesn't return to earth before Sunday, I'll be one year older when I see you next!

(Ever closer to the target demographic for Vermont Country Store . . . )

  1. Okay, I just went over and checked out the Vermont Country Store. Not to bad. It actually has some neat foods, toys, gadgets...but if I see a picture of you wearing one of those mumus...I am sending in help! Have a great weekend and if I don't talk to you...Happy Birthday!

  2. Oh my gosh..............YOU CRACK ME UP...I've been Vermont Country Store Catalog worshipper for YEARS!!
I've maybe bought two things EVER.
Once I know I bought the Uncle Wiggly Board Game ...so much of that stuff just reminds me of my grandmothers and childhood.
I have been SO tempted to buy that lipstick...TANGEE? or something like that where it's supposed to turn different shades for different people?
Oh my gosh..I could go on and on..what about the Lanz of Salsburg (sp) nightgowns? I lived in mine in college ( and still had boyfriends go figure)
This is a reason why I must meet you one day.
We can wear our Jean Nate and rain bonnets from the Vermont Country Store.

  5. I was watching 'The Golden Girls' last night while I was working on stain removal, and at one point I actually found myself wondering where they found those high collared, floor length white cotton nightgowns that Bea Arthur wore all the time.

AND - there is one thing I always ask my father-in-law to bring back for me when he visits the Phillipines: mumus. Mumus rock, and Filipino mumus rock even more because they are comfortable in ridiculous heat, and they have a hidden pocket that's big enough for a set of keys and/or a cell phone. I wore them all the time to Bella's swim classes last year.

So, to recap, I envy Bea Arthur's nightgown wardrobe and wear mumus in public. Bella is going to be horrified by me when she gets a little older. I'm slightly horrified by me.

  6. Oh that is so funny - I have an odd fascination with the Vermont Country Store, too. I keep wanting one of those flannel nightgowns...but they just don't do much for hubby. :)

And how funny - I just bought an enameled cast-iron dutch oven, too! I found one at TJ Maxx (Cuisinart brand - although they did have some Le Creuset...still outrageous price, though). I did eye the Batali ones, though. :) Mine is cobalt blue - and she's big 7 Qts! I think I'll call her Big Blue Bertha...

Nice "meeting you" via Jen's Quick Takes!
