I'm Still Standing

I'm still here. Just barely.

Somehow, four kids have managed to turn me into a zombie. I really don't know how that happened, what with all of the quality sleep I have been getting lately.

I read an article about a celebrity who recently became a new mother, and she commented on her infatuation with her son. She said that she feels wonderful, and all she and her husband do all day is sit and stare into their baby's eyes.

Oh, me too! I always gaze lovingly down at Bun every morning around two. And then I wake up with a jerk at 3:45 because I've started drooling on his head.

That's some worshipful love right there, my friends.

Of course, a little farther down in the article, this celebrity mom mentions her 24-hour on call baby nurse and her other staff. As in hired people who will clean out her toilets so that she can lounge around and stare at her baby.

I tried to get some other staff, but the best I could do was to give birth to them myself. And they don't take too kindly to scrubbing toilets while I lay around with the baby.

But hey, at least I don't drool on them.

PS: Thank you, Blogger, for restoring my spell-check. You have saved my last nerve.

In a few short weeks Bun will be sleeping soundly. You will want him to cuddle and sit still and he will want to crawl and run. My little pumpkin only cuddles at bedtime and when he is sick. Cherish those midnight, 2 AM, 4AM, etc moments. Think about how short of a time Bun will be so tiny and so dependent on you. One day soon you will go to bed at 10 and wake up at 5 and be amazed that Bun finally slept thru the night. Till then....caffeine is a GREAT invention!! :) Thinking of you always...Lisa L

  2. Don't scare me! I am just emerging from a VERY Zombie-esque first trimester and have started to quake in my shoes whenever I imagine what life will be like with three. Oh well - I'm in it now!
Good luck with the Bun - I don't know much about cherishing those middle-of-the-night feedings, that was never really my bag but I do know that they end eventually! God bless you.

Hang in there! And if nothing else convince your parents or JB and his girlfriend to be your people for a weekend. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you a well-deserved, much needed break.

And I'm sure they're oh, so grateful that I volunteered them for this service. ;)

It's such a shame that they have those pesky child labor laws.

Well, dirty toilets will wait. Bun's hunger will not. I hope you are at least getting the occasional 3 hour stretch or getting a good nap here and there.

  5. Don't worry, that zombie like stage will do you well when your firstborn becomes a teenager. You can then threaten to drool on her and it will simultaneously straighten her out pronto AND entertain her siblings. Ask me how I know this.

Ah, to behold the Bun in his natural habitat- someday! Perhaps once I have a pastry of my own to add to the buffet....!

  7. Glad you checked in! When you have 4 kids, it's ok to drool on one of them :) And those celebrities can spend all day gazing into eyes with all the help they have. We just have to walk around with Zombie eyes. That's how it is for us common folk.
Enjoy Bun as much as you can. The baby time goes so fast.

  8. The fact that you can write with such humour in such a sleep deprived state is nothing short of miraculous. Consider yourself "high fived" from all the way across the seas! And Bun is making me broody so I am not gonna visit too often.......
